About Charles
I’m a 26-year-old young man with a knack for technology and its application in the mass media landscape. I work at KXAN as the Morning Floor Director, and at Lost Pines Cowboy Church running their multimedia and lights. I earned both my M.A. in Mass Communication & Digital Media and my B.S. in Mass Communication & Electronic Media from the Texas State University School of Journalism & Mass Communication. During my time at the university, I was an instructor for a number of classes, most notably, the Fundamental of Digital and Online Media and Web Design and Publishing. The skills I use to make your multimedia dream come true, I’ve literally taught to undergraduate college students.

Photography
Still photography can make any project come to life. Blog content production and social media are two obvious applications of the basic photography skillset that Amperage Media can provide.
Naturally, in addition to basic photography skills that are used for more simple projects, Amperage Media is well prepared to utilize a more advanced photography toolkit. The above slider contains a sample of wedding photographs from Amperage Media. We’re eager to capture your vision of the perfect wedding.
Videography
Video is one of the fastest growing methods of engaging with your audience, and as most come to find out, it’s not easy to produce even a short video. You can feel confident with Amperage Media as your video professionals. Between our team we have worked on music videos, documentaries, short films, live sports, weddings, and broadcast journalism.
The Nepalese Journey: During the fall of 2016, my father planned a mountain trek in the HImalayan Mountains of Nepal. Because of my schooling, I was unable to go with him. Despite this obvious limitation, I knew that I had to be part of his hike and project, that’s why I decided to equip my dad with a set of iVUE Horizon Pro video glasses.
Outside of the interview footage, the video from the project was shot nearly in its entirety from my father’s point of view. Naturally, the project features shots of beautiful mountains, ancient ruins, and much more. I’m also excited to say that my father has returned to Nepal this 2017, this time with a 360 degree camera. The second installment should be ready around January 2018.
It’s important to understand the Nepalese Journey is more than just a few video interviews with my father, it’s an entire website dedicated to his story. The Nepalese Journey uses a mobile-friendly responsive theme with a self-hosted WordPress installation. The whole website comes to life through the combination of his storytelling and my web design techniques.
SXTXState: One of the most satisfying projects I had the opportunity to work on was SXTXState. SXTXState is an annual multimedia reporting project that covers the interactive portion of the SXSW conference. The topics I was interested in primarily related to technology and digital media. I was particularly focused on augmented reality and virtual reality.
As the videographer of the project, I was tasked with creating the mini-documentaries above. These movies were shown to the executives at SXSW who wanted to learn more from the project, in particular, what attending the conference is like. In addition to reporting and producing these videos, I had the opportunity to experiment with 360 video and POV video.
The Sutton Wedding: Travis Sutton has worked with Amperage Media before on the release of his first album, Life of a Bard. This made us an obvious shoe-in for any future multimedia needs.
Simply put, there wasn’t a significant amount of money left in the Sutton wedding for a complete video. As his friend, I filmed and edited the entire wedding free of charge. It’s easily the best wedding video that was ever done for free.
MR Fest: MR Fest, or My Radio Festival, was a local concert series hosted in San Marcos, Texas, by KTSW-FM 89.9 during April. As a DJ and host for KTSW, I decided to volunteer as a multimedia department videographer. I was tasked with filming interviews, B-roll of attendess, and live performances by band members. The above video is an accurate representation on what MR Fest was like to attend.
School Work
As you can imagine, during my undergraduate and graduate studies at Texas State University School of Journalism & Mass Communication, I worked on numerous projects. Below include my demo reel as a broadcast journalist, as well as a documentary of a local bar that closed, and an in studio production that parodied Star Wars.
The above video is a demo reel of my work as a broadcast journalist during my undergraduate program. You see various footage of me anchoring the news and reporting in the field for Bobcat Update.
Triple Crown was a dive bar at the heart of the independent and alternative music scene in San Marcos. This documentary was produced for my Visual Storytelling class. It tells the rather unfortunate story of how Triple Crown came to close down after nearly two decades of live music.
This Star Wars parody was a project I directed. The goal was to produce a basic Star Wars news show, full with weather and commercials. In addition to seeing the main production, you also hear an audio track of me directing the production crew.
Jarrod’s Video Work
During my time at The Art Institute of Austin, I was able to work on projects that included ADR, SFX, music scoring, foley, and replacing all audio in a video. Below are those videos and I hope you enjoy!
I found this trailer on iTunes and deleted the audio and started from scratch. All the voices are me, SFX from various libraries, and original music made in Logic.
The same kind of story with this video just completely focused on film music scoring. Original music made in Logic and edited to match BPM vs action on screen.
Again, the same story, but this time focused more on SFX and foley. Everything is original, including SFX and foley, except for the Goldeneye movie music.
I was given a choice between 5 videos with no audio, and had to at least have FM, wavetable, and analog synths in it. The music is original and the voices are from V for Vendetta and an anime called Hellsing.
We were told to find a video and make it all original in 5.1 surround sound. This created new mixing strategies and interesting techniques. However, this is only the stereo version. We did have a partner for this, Rolando is the voice of the first character and he helped with editing. I was the second character and provided the SFX and music and worked more on mixing.
I hope this gives you an idea of the work we do. Feel free to check out our Web Design Portfolio!
